Oprah Signs Deal with HBO

Oprah Winfrey has just signed on with HBO in a multi-year deal to develop and produce movies, scripted series and documentaries. This marks the end of Oprah’s long time relationship with ABC who she’s been with for 15 years.

Oprah’s production company Harpo Films’ president Kate Forte said “HBO and Harpo Films are both committed to the highest standards in the entertainment industry, making this a great match. The format and creativity offered by HBO are unique in television, and the quality and range of their subjects are extraordinary.

There is simply no other place like it. We look forward to doing great things together.” HBO doesn’t normally make these sorts deals but co-president Richard Plepler said “Oprah personifies excellence and quality in everything she does. It’s a great privilege for us to partner with her in the coming years.”

Neither Harpo/Oprah nor HBO would comment on the financial terms of the deal.
