The Reader’s Producers Will all be Nominated

In the past only three producers have been allowed to be honoured in the best producer category at the Oscars, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences have decided to make an exception for the four producers of The Reader?

Ten years ago the organization decided that a maximum of three producers on a film would be eligible in the category except in rare and extraordinary circumstances which is what? The Reader is deemed to be.

When the list of producers was sent in for Oscar consideration, Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Donna Gigliotti and Redmond Morris were all listed.

The Academy decided that because two of the four producers of the film (Minghella and Pollack) died during the production of the film that this met the criteria of rare and extraordinary circumstances and that all four individuals would be named as nominees.
