Anne Hathaway to Play Judy Garland

New York – The Weinstein Company revealed yesterday that they have acquired the film and stage rights for an adaptation of “Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland” by Gerald Clarke.

Harvey Weinstein announced that Anne Hathaway would star as Judy Garland. “We are thrilled to have the brilliantly talented Anne Hathaway portray stage and screen legend Judy Garland. I have worked with Anne on projects in the past and have known her for many years. She will be a true class act in this challenging role.”

Garland started singing and acting as a very young child and continued until her death at the age of 47.

She had an incredible life performing on stages in New York and London and of course starring in movies like “The Wizard of Oz”; but also battled with addiction and numerous relationship issues.

Like Garland, Hathaway started her career in acting early with her first major role in “The Princess Diaries” alongside Julie Andrews.

Hathaway has no on stage experience but caught the attention of audiences at the Academy Awards when she performed on stage with Hugh Jackman.

No word on when the film or theatre productions will begin.
