Penn, Del Toro and Carrey As Stooges?

Thursday, 26 Mar 2009

Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey to join Sean Penn in their version of The Three Stooges.

Los Angeles – Hollywood.com reports that the Farrelly Brothers and MGM and are in negotiations with Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey to join Sean Penn in their version of “The Three Stooges”.

So who would the three actors play?

MGM has Del Toro to play Moe, Penn playing Larry, and Carrey, who is already planning on putting on 40 pounds for the role, as Curly.

As we all know, Carrey is no stranger to comedic roles but Penn and Del Toro haven’t starred in a comedy in quite a while, Penn’s last time was in “We’re No Angels” in 1989 and Del Toro’s last was “Snatch” in 2000.

The Farrelly Brothers (“There’s Something About Mary” and “Me, Myself and Irene”) aren’t making this a biopic but more of a comedy built around the antics of the three characters.

Peter Farrelly said “When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I haven’t done a real physical comedy in a while, and it’s the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humour.”

They will be writing the script as well as producing this movie which is set to start filming later this year for a release in 2010.
