Patrick Swayze Cancer Pancreatic Update
Swayze Refuses Drastic Lung Surgery
After battling pancreatic cancer since early 2008, Patrick Swayze, refused a potentially life-saving lung operation, according to several news sources.
The “Dirty Dancing” star developed a lung infection that didn’t respond to treatment. The National Enquirer claimed the infection also interrupted his course of chemotherapy. Doctors were “desperate to provide any relief,” reported The Times of India, after Swayze had difficulty breathing.
The operation was to remove part or all of the infected lung, resulting in a long and painful recuperation. In January’s television interview with Barbara Walters, Swayze reported he had been “going through hell” to keep a disease at bay that has less than a 5% chance of survival.
An unauthorized biography by Wendy Leigh, entitled “Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance,” pictures an actor who “worked 12 hour days without pain killers to shoot a new crime drama called ‘The Beast.’” The bio’s author insists Swayze “didn’t want anything at all to befuddle his acting performance or his mind.”
Although Swayze shot most of the first season of “The Beast” after being diagnosed with one of the deadliest forms of cancer, A&E’s new program schedule does not include the FBI drama for next season.
The decision not to operate means an about-face for Swayze. When Barbara Walters asked Swayze how long he had to live, the actor answered, “I’m in the fight of my life.”
Now Swayze may have exhausted his resources. “…after months of painful treatments and fighting…just to get up in the mornings,” a friend is quoted in Contactmusic, “he felt he had done all he could.” Swayze’s friend concluded “a long, painful recovery was not how he wanted to spend his last days.”

I’m sad to hear this, you are a great actor I loved dirty dancing, also roadhouse where you played with my cousin marshal teaague. You are a brave and strong person, somehow cancer grings that out of people,my mom faught breast cancer, and a close cousin faught pncreatic cancer. My heart goes out to you and your wife, donna. Tennessee
This is not an update on his condition. I heard more than a week ago. What are they doing for him now for his pain and difficulty of breathing. I pray for him and his family in this difficult and sorrowful time. Seeing a loved one so very sick and terminal is so very hard to deal with. You want to do so much for them to find for them comfort and you are limited as the disease takes over competlely. I went thru it with my own mom.
I’m sick to death of the false, irresponsible writing about Patrick Swayze’s condition. He did NOT refuse “a potentially life-saving lung operation”. There was nothing “life-saving” about it. He’s dying. The lung surgery would’ve allowed him to breathe more easily, but he’d be in even more excruciating pain recuperating from it. He made the right choice for himself.
Thank you Kate for giving us the correct information. Even the National Enquirer said the same thing. I am not defending them as they should respect his privacy but they were on right on this news.
Unfortunately, hundreds of people in North America die daily of cancer and obviously the treatments offered are no cure. In fact, most people would rather keep their hair, avoid the spotty ravaged skin, the horrific aches that chemo and other useless poisons cause. You can’t kill cockroaches by burning down the house, and yet idiot Doctors insist on further tormenting cancer victims with shitty drugs which they themselves know are useless. For God’s sake, let these poor souls die with SOME dignity.
I recently lost my mother… Cancer cannot be cured as I hace very well understood. Doctors propably make experiments on the people using treatments that don’t help. All my love to his family…
My heart goes out to Patrick and his family at this very difficult time. Having just watched the full series of The Beast I commend Patrick on his achievements as an actor. Even though Patrick was receiving treatment throughout the making of the series, he still showed on screen his full potential as an outstanding actor. I have thoroughly enjoyed his work over the past years and only wish there’s more to come.
I can’t say it any better. There is only a 5 percent chance of recovery, but maybe he will be lucky. He has my best wishes.
It is hard to watch such a strong man go down, like this! But, HEY, I have not heard that Patrick Swayze has given up. Send the guy a little positive energy. It only requires a small amount of energy compared to what Mr. Swayze is putting out at the moment!
You simply project your highest or ultimate thought of healing to one you care about, then mentally walk away, or, stop thinking about it. In this case, you would offer it to Mr. Swayze. If you think that this idea of projecting is a waste of your time…quit, ya quitter! All my best to the Swayze family!

My prayers and hope go out to you in the fight of your life. I have enjoyed watching you perform over the years, and wish very much that you will be around for many more years to come. Not just to be an actor, but to enjoy your life. God Bless you Patrick.
God Bless you Patrick Swayze…great actor, a warrior to fight a battle. My brother lost his battle to a rare bladder cancer. Just 7 months after being diagnosed. He was a paraplegic since the age of 11 and passed away at 46. Doctors said he was not to live passed 21…He beat the odds time and time again. Until this huge demon! My Hero My brother! Patrick, may you fight hard for your life.
