Farrah Fawcett Anal Cancer Update
The Role of a Lifetime: Fawcett inspires in “Farrah’s Story”
This is one role that most actors and actresses would never want to take. Yet, for actress Farrah Fawcett, the role is hers whether she wants it or not.
The sixty-two year old star has had a public two year battle with anal cancer. Despite the many ups and downs, she has maintained her dignity and her courage throughout, and yet, as many reports indicate that her struggle is nearing an end, Fawcett agreed to take on what many consider to be the greatest role of her life: herself.
Not just the fame and the glitz of being a Hollywood star, but the pain and the grit of being a cancer patient. Fawcett let viewers see it all in a documentary called “Farrah’s Story,” which aired on NBC. The documentary captures Fawcett throughout the two years, detailing everything from the painful emotional fallout for friends and family to the intense treatments, which even took the actress to Germany.
The story gripped almost nine million viewers, making it one of the most successful special television events NBC has ever broadcast. Yet, behind the numbers and the publicity, Fawcett’s story is an important one, not just for her and her friends and family, but for other families who are struggling with the same painful journey.
Though the prognosis is not good for Fawcett, who is now in late stages of the disease, the actress’ bravery in the face of this struggle are likely to continue to inspire many for years to come.
