Uma Thurman A “Girl Soldier”

According to Variety Uma Thurman is set to star in an independent drama for Caspian Pictures titled “Girl Soldier”.

The movie is based on the book called “Stolen Angels” written by Kathy Cook and follows the 1996 raid of a boarding school in Uganda where armed rebels kidnapped 139 young girls to turn them into soldiers and sex slaves.

Sister Caroline, a teacher at the school, tracked the rebels back to their camp and demanded the release of the girls. The rebels turned over 110 girls and over the next few years with the help of parents, the government, the United Nations and the Pope, Sister Caroline made it her mission to rescue children in rebel captivity.

Thurman would play Sister Caroline and says about the film “This is a film that had to get made. It’s beyond me that in this day and age the exploitation of child soldiers goes virtually unnoticed and unchecked by Western media.”

“Girl Soldier” will be directed by Will Raee from a script written by Stephanie Pinola and Karen Croner.
