Miss Universe 2009: Stefania Fernandez

A Venezuelan takes the Miss Universe 2009 crown for the second year in a row this year. Stefania Fernandez, 18, won the pageant making Venezuela the first country to have a winner for the Miss Universe pageant two years in a row. This makes a total of six wins for the country; the only country with more total winners is The Unites States, who can claim seven of them since the contest began in 1950. Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008, seems more emotional over the crowning ceremony than Fernandez did. The runner-up, Ada Aimee De La Cruz of the Dominican Republic, will be the one to complete her term if Stefania is not able to. There were over 80 contestants participation in Nassau, Bahamas for this year’s Miss Universe 2009.

This year’s Miss Universe was decided in Nassau, Bahamas on Sunday the 23rd. The pageant included swimsuits, evening gowns, and interviews and was decided by a panel of 12 judges. As the winner of Miss Universe 2009, Stefania Fernandez will be provided with a furnished New York apartment with all living expenses paid for her. A two year scholarship to the New York Film Academy, a vacation for two to the Bahamas, and an entire new wardrobe are also part of the prize package. The wardrobe includes swimsuits and evening wear, as well as jewelry.
