Ridley Scott Takes on Red Riding

Monday, 19 Oct 2009

According to Variety, Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to remake the miniseries “Red Riding” which aired in the U.K. and is based on four novels by David Peace.

Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct with Steve Zaillian (“Schindler’s List”, “Mission Impossible”, “Gangs of New York”) writing the script.

The miniseries is about the study of power and police corruption surrounding the investigation of several missing girls in West Yorkshire, England.

The original trilogy starring Sean Bean, and Andrew Garfield spans over more than 5 hours so Scott and Zaillian have their work cut out for them condensing it down.

They will be changing the setting of the film from the U.K. to the U.S. Scott most recently completed “”Welcome to the Riley’s” and is currently working on “Robin Hood”, “The A-Team” and “The Low Dweller”.

Zaillian’s most recent work was “American Gangster” back in 2007.
