Jay Reatard Dead At 29

Jay Reatard, whose real name is Jimmy Lee Lindsey, is found dead at 29. On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, the Memphis musician, was found dead in his bed by his roommate. Earlier, that day, Reatard was complaining that he wasn’t feeling well. An autopsy has been done, but the cause of death has not been determined. The Homicide Bureau is handling this death investigation.

Jimmy Lee Lindsey was born in Lilbourn, Missouri and moved to Memphis when he was eight years old. During his teens, he was known as a noisemaker and him and his family had to move several times because of this. Goner Records co-owner Zac Ives discovered Lindsey when he was 15. Ives listened to a demo by Lindsey and began taking him to shows and eventually released some of his records.

Reatard made headlines recently when his band quit on him when they were on a music tour and a couple of months later, two fans jumped on him at a stage in Austin. This caused the musician to use a mic stand to defend himself

Reatard leaves behind his mother, Devonna May, his father, Jimmy Lindsey and three sisters, Leslie Lindsey, Stephanie Duncan and Gara May.
