Fresh Express Announces Lettuce Recall
Only months after Fresh Express had to recall several products due to Salmonella that was detected in a sample of lettuce, the Chiquita Brands International subsidiary has voluntarily recalled several romaine lettuce products with past-due use-by dates.
Due to the potential E. coli O157:H7 contamination that was found after a random FDA screening, Fresh Express has recalled all of their romaine based salad products with use-by dates of July 8, July 9, July 10, July 11 and July 12. These products have an “S” in the product code.
According to the company, these products will not be available in the supermarket because they are past expiration; however, some consumers may still have the products in their homes. The company issued a statement asking consumers and retailers to discard of all of these products due to the fact that they are expired as well as the fact that they could possibly contain the E. coli bacteria. The company went on to announce that there have been no negative effects reported in connection with these products.
Anyone with questions has been asked to call the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at (800) 242-5472, Monday – Friday, 5 a.m. – 8 p.m., Pacific Time.
