Black Couple Gives Birth to a Caucasian Baby
A black couple living in the U.K. were amazed to discover they had given birth to a daughter of Caucasian appearance, describing her as a “miracle baby”.
The parents, Benjamin and Angela, are originally from Nigeria, said they did not know of any white ancestry in their family.
Baby Nmachi is not the first case. Another black couple were left with many of the same questions when they first saw their newly born son three years ago, he to was born with a Caucasian appearance.
There were some obvious questions that were asked when the couple first saw their daughter. Ben has no doubts that his wife was true to him and said of Nmachi, “Of course she is mine… Even if she [Angela] hadn’t been [faithful], the baby still wouldn’t look like that.”
There are three possible reasons for the baby Nmachi’s skin color: “dormant white genes which entered both of her parents’ families long ago, a genetic mutation unique to her, or albinism.” Doctors at the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup told the parents that Nmachi Ihegboro is definitely not an albino. Like many human traits, a person’s color is influenced by about 12 different genes, which together control the amount of pigment – or melanin – produced in the skin.
Nmachi, whose name means “Beauty of God” in Igbo, is the third child born to the South London couple, joining sister Dumebi, two, and brother Chisom, four, both black.
