Poll Shows Decline In Healthcare Overhaul Opposition
Recent polls show opposition to the massive healthcare overhaul is declining. The most recent poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows opposition at 35%, down from 41% last month. The poll also showed 50% approved of the healthcare reform, with the rest stating they have no opinion. In April, shortly after the reform passed, 46% were in favor while 40% opposed.
Republicans held steady in opposition to the reform at 69%. They also had a small increase in the percentage of people who held a very unfavorable position on the reform. Meanwhile, 48% of Independents held a favorable position, which is down from the 49% last month. However, only 37% opposed, down from 41% last month. Those numbers show a wider range of people who are in favor compared to those who aren’t. There was no significant change in those independents that held strong opinions either way.
Among Democrats, the favorability increased. 73% of Democrats were in favor, up from 69% in June. 15% opposed, down from 19% last month. Among Democrats, about one third expressed a very favorable opinion of healthcare reform. Overall the numbers showed an increase in favorability. The study was conducted among 1,504 adults.
