West Nile Update: The Virus Has Been Found in Every State

Saturday, 31 Jul 2010

West Nile virus has now been found in every state. Conditions around the country have made the spread of this disease this year very easy. Mosquitoes have had ample breeding grounds and prime weather this year, making the infestation of the pest quite predominate.

West Nile virus is originally carried in birds. However, mosquitoes that bite birds contract the disease and pass it on effortlessly to humans. All of the 48 states on mainland America have now reported cases of West Nile. Flooding and extremely warm weather is making the progress of the disease move rapidly.

West Nile often begins with flu like symptoms. They can progress to more severe body aches and weakness. Severe infections can cause paralysis or death. If you have begun to feel sick after an outdoor event, or apparent bite by a mosquito contact your doctor immediately if you begin to show symptoms of the flu.

People must take precaution this summer to try and avoid being stung. Avoid standing water and use bug spray when out doors. To avoid having any larvae form near your home, make sure all standing water is emptied, including unfiltered pools. Something as simple as a bird bath can be the breeding ground for thousands of the bugs. west-nile-update-virus-found-in-every-state
