Lady Gaga Speaks out About Bill 1070

Sunday, 01 Aug 2010

Before Lady Gaga’s concert on Saturday night in Arizona, several rappers and rock stars called for the pop vocalist to cancel her show and boycott the state due to the creation of Arizona Senate Bill 1070. Although Lady Gaga respectfully decided not to follow with their requests, she capitalised on the chance to inspire fans to protest the contentious immigration law.

Lady Gaga addressed her audience twice during Saturday’s sold-out concert in Phoenix’s U.S. Airways Center. Before devoting her song “You and I” to an Arizona boy who had been personally impacted by SB 1070 Gaga said. “We have to be active. We have to actively protest,” Gaga said to the crowd of over 14,000. “I will not cancel my show. I will hold you, and we will hold each other, and we will protest this state,” said Gaga, who had the slogan “Stop SB 1070″ scrawled on her forearm.

The Bill, sections of which were dropped by a federal judge last week, wants police to ascertain the immigration status of individuals they suspect are in the country illegally.bill-1070-lady-gaga
