Second show of the season axed

If you’re keeping count, you know that’s two. ABC has cancelled the one hour docu-drama My Generation after two weeks of low Thursday night ratings.

The series, which helms from former NBC exec Warren Littlefield, debuted Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET to 5.2 million viewers and a 1.6 in adults 18-49. In its second week the series fell to 3.9 million viewers and a 1.1 in adults 18-49, prompting ABC to yank it.

That leaves a gap to fill on Thursday nights in the pre Grey’s Anatomy slot. The network hasn’t announced what will air in that slot, but it has several midseason options and the new Dana Delany drama, Body of Proof, that they could call in.

Earlier last week Fox’s Lone Star was fall’s first cancellation. If numbers for Jimmy Smitt’s Outlaw and the Rob Morrow, Maura Tierney lawyer drama The Whole Truth don’t improve, those series are expected to be cut as well.

Meanwhile, The Apprentice continues to struggle on Thursdays nights, pulling in only 3.61 million U.S. viewers last week in the 10 p.m. timeslot. This compared to The Mentalist with 14.65 million viewers and Private Practice with 7.929 million.

In the 9 p.m. slot, Grey’s Anatomy and CSI continued to do well with 12.53 and 13.4 viewers each, while Fringe only pulled in 5.237 million, The Office got 7.358 million, Outsourced drew 5.852 million, and CW’s Nikita remake attracted 2.682 million.

At 8 p.m. The Big Bang Theory was the night’s winner with 13 million viewers, followed up in the hour by $#*! My Dad Says, with over 10 million viewers. Bones drew 9.75 million, The Vampire Diaries had 3.183 million pairs of eyeballs, Community garnered 4.527 million and 30 Rock managed 5.678 million.
