California Earthquake Reported
Shortly after 9 am local time today, an earthquake struck the Long Beach area of California. The quake was a single shiver, measuring at 3.7 on the Richter scale. The quake is believe to have originated between 11 and 12 miles below the earth’s surface.
Yesterday in San Diego, a 4.6 shake up occurred in an area a few miles north of Ocotillo, shortly after noon.
Ocotillo is near the border of California and Mexico and is a reported hotbed of seismic activity. The quake is not the first to be reported in the area this year.
On Easter 2010, a 7.2 quake struck the Ocotillo area. It is believed that yesterday’s quake may have been a related aftershock, but today’s rumble in Long Beach was unexpected.
