Dive! Takes a Dive
Many celebrities attempt to use their fame to start a business. For a few, it works. Many others, however, fail. Steven Speilburg was, unfortunately, one of the failures.
In 1994, Speilburg and his partner, Jeffery Katzenberg, opened Dive! in Los Angeles. Dive! was a restaurant, in the shape of a yellow submarine, that promised visitors an underwater dining experience. The menu, which consisted mainly of submarine sandwiches, sported bad puns such as “sub-stansial salads.” Additional income was obtained by selling sea souveniers.
The restaurant met with initial success but the owners failed to attract repeat customers. Dive! closed its doors for the last time in 1999.
