Pet Tax?

The state of California is looking to join several other states that have already introduced a pet tax. A bill was introduced that will broaden the state sales tax to now include the cost of pet care.

This bill is not just meant to tax pet owners, but politicians see it as a way to help raise funds in today’s economy. Different states will tax different amounts, with California charging an extra 9%.

Not only will the new pet tax affect your routine vet visit, but it will also affect you when you go to buy food at the store for your pet. The California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, had defended himself by saying that this pet tax is necessary to help account for the sate of California’s budget crisis. This new tax has outraged many people that are saying that it is hard enough to pay for my pets vet bills as it is.

While many are left uncertain about this new tax, those politicians in charge seem to know that this is in fact the only answer to help erase their budget shortfalls.
