Bishop Eddie Long, who is facing serious allegations that he coerced four teenage boys into sexual relationships, still has many followers in his church, the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church of Lithonia, Ga.
Many of Long’s parishioners have come forward and professed their love and support for Long in spite of the four lawsuits that have been filed against him.
The lawsuits stem from a string of incidents where the four men say Long used his power and influence as the leader of the church to get them to have sexual relationships with him before moving on to younger boys.

The problem with many “christians’ is that they invest their ‘salvation’ in and through other people… in other words, they are too lazy and uninspired to delve within their own selves and do the internal work necessary to be ‘Christ-like’, so they pin their hope of salvation on their pastor, church leader and because they have so much invested in these people, it is difficult for them to see the truth and prefer to remain brainwashed. It’s a very sad state of affairs… what a thing when they get to the pearly gates and hear the words, “I know ye not”…

What could POSSIBLY be more precious than our children? They are gifts from God and were put on earth for us to protect them and love, not turn our backs when they are crying out for help! And to Tiffany, I not ONCE EVER said ANYTHING bad about Bishop Long, he IS innocent until proven guilty, but the congregation has already considered him INNOCENT! It seems as though they could care LESS about the possible victims! Why not stand behind children as oppose to the Pastor?! I am just amazed at how GROWN people will not consider that these allegations may have happened that were made by children! If GROWN individuals will not listen to them, who will?!!! BE LOYAL TO THE CHILDREN, and consider what they’ve said MAY have happened! BISHOP LONG IS A HUMAN BEING, NOT GOD!
Does no one get it as far as the HIPROCRACY of the situation? Here is a spandex wearing man who has taught strongly against everything gay being accused of having sex with 4 young men. Since there are 4 young men, I feel there is some truth in these allegations, some where. It couldnt be all 100% lies
And, to the person who asked why couldn’t the young men say no, you are truly ignorant. That is not the point. The point is the hiprocracy & audacity of this self appointed man to say one thing in the pulpit and do the exact opposite in his personal spandex wearing life…..It says something about the people for falling for such nonsense….BUT they are not at fault, they are brainwashed & eventually they will begin to remove the spandex from their eyes.
I am not familiar with New Birth- but I believe in my heart that there are many GOOD people that are members…so with that said-
why is there only ONE person in charge of this MASSIVE congregation? Is there absolutely no checks and balance system here? are there no associate pastors? and if not- why not? is there NO one that can perform the duties of this Bishop so that the church will continue to stand as Bishop works through this legal issue? Anytime you have a congregation that reaches the massive membership that New Birth has grown to- there needs to be more then one person in place capable of up-holding the integrity of the church in time of crisis. If the intrastucture of this church begins to shift- based on the fate of ONE man- and yes- he is JUST a man.. that would be a tragedy. With love comes sacrifice- Bishop loves this church that he built- so why would he not allow other men and women of God to keep the church strong while he resolves this issue. the church and the man are not synonomous- at least they shouldn’t be. Thats why people keep using the world Cult. The Christian world needs to see that New Birth is strong and that it will stand REGARDLESS of what happens with the Bishop.
Apparently Eddie Long is not the only pastor accused of such despicable behavior. Read about Billy Eckstine McCurdy, pastor at Revival Temple Church of God in Christ. If these allegations are true, and I believe they are, will put these pastors at the bottom of the barrel, an absolute disgrace. Let’s pray for the young men and those pastors that justice will be served. Let’s not forget, God is still God and everything will be all right. We often get by but we don’t get away.
What is sad is that we are all arguing about this situation. What is equally sad is that the Bishop’s congregation are not entertaining the thought that this could possibly be true. Whether or not the kids were young adults or little boys, the implications alone, if true, are inappropriate for a spiritual leader. So to all who wish to put their trust in the man and not in GOD, I pray for you. He is of the flesh and is not immune from sin. I will be glad when this mess is over. As a matter of fact, we all know that this mess will go away, the victims will get their money, and the fact that they were paid off will not pose any difference in the minds of his parishioners. My take on the situation is that if you are truly a man of GOD as you claim to be, then a monetary settlement should not be a factor. If you are true and are telling the truth, you should be able to win in court. Just as everyone is spouting of that “no weapons formed against me shall prosper”, this should be evident when he prepares to fight in court. I have never cared for New Birth. It is like a cult, members look down on others, and it seems that there is more praise for the Bishop than GOD. Just my observation. For the record, my in laws and husband attended New Birth before Bishop Long became who he is today. Bishop Earl Paulk was his spiritual mentor. Earl Paulk the pastor who fathered many children outside his marriage. Now you all be the judge. Open your eyes. Listen to GOD, if you truly believe then HE will show you the way.

I think it will be wise if Bishop Long will leave the pulpit for a while till he deals with his issues. He should know tat the real head of any church is the Lord. New Birth is not his personal property but the Lord’s church. Stepping down does not mean he is guilty. I want him to put away pride and leave the pulpit to others who he has brought up.

You are correct. Actually, MR. Long should permanently step down from the pulpit. He has brought reproach to the office of Pastor. One might say, ‘Wait! He has not been proven guilty.’ For such a situation to get to this point shows that there is no accountability among the leadership. A pastor should have a good report-even among unbelievers. No one is perfect -but pastors are held to a higher standard (of much is given, much is required).
Prayfully, the ‘situation’ will lead many to truly study the word and rightly divide the word of truth. We should be like the Bereans. It is more than ok to judge – as long as it is righteous judgement. The lord told saints not to cast our pearls among the swine. We would have to judge (or discern) to determine who would be considered swine.
This current scandal within the body of Christ is merely a reflecton of her sickness. Similar to the “Identified patient” within the context of family therapy..we find that the “family” of the “sick” person is sick herself. It took many people who were spiritually nd possibly emotionally sick to create (if these allegatons are true)…an Eddie Long.. (or whomever)..etc..(you fill in the name). My friends we ahve created this because we have allowed the values of the world to enter in the church by believing that gain is godliness..what about being content and grateful for everything God has given us? We get our eyes off of the Gospel..which is simnple enough for a child to do..and to understand. Jesus declared the law is fulfilled when we love God and one another. As far as “judging” we have every right to judge the fruit of a self proclaimed prophet, apostle, pastor, teacher, or evanglist who proclaims to speak to me on behalf of God. It is time for us to study the word of God. There are so many wonderful Greek and Hebraic study materials our there. Have your own relationship with God. Speak the truth, speak kindly,forgive quickly, and ask God to grow you up to be a person who is intimate with the Lord. Stay away from Christianeese circus’ and authoritarianism. Empower others to make their own choices, question EVERYTHING! Give to the less fortunate, love the world, and seek with all sincerity to truly live for Him and die to self..then you will truly be His didciples. Finally Pray for all who are decieved, fallen leaders,and that we will all grow as a body who loves Jesus Christ and one another.

besides Fast Eddie Long. In these tales of folklore, jesus multiplies the loaves and
fishes to feed people. It is considered to be a miracle. Please tell me why jesus
does not appear to feed the thousands of innocent children who die of starvation
everyday. Yet he cares about your bank account? Pure nonsense. jesus does not

Religion is trickery, superstition, and shame. Whatever good there is in religion, can be had without it. Teach ethics instead.
These Not Reverends use specific tricks on you. They tell you what you want to hear. They agree with your prejudices, and feed your ego by telling you “god has
a plan for you”. They exploit your fears, and promise an imaginary afterlife.

My last comment has to do with the mind boggling fact that black people can
