American Idol Recap: Who Went Home?

Sunday, 29 Mar 2009

Michael was one of the first called to the bottom three seats and he was accompanied by Matt Girard and Scott MacIntyre

Los Angeles – Michael was one of the first called to the bottom three seats and he was accompanied by Matt Girard and Scott MacIntyre. Scott was then informed a short while later that he was safe and he returned to the others to enjoy performances by Smokey Robinson, Joss Stone and Stevie Wonder. I couldn’t help but feel a little bad for Michael and Matt as they sat there thinking that they could be the next to go home. They couldn’t have enjoyed the terrific performances by legends. Matt actually looked a little green in the face at one point.

When Ryan, after a few commercial breaks where he pleaded with America to hang in there because the results would come immediately after, he finally got down to business. The judges gave their two-cents; Matt did not deserve to be there and Michael did. America, at least the America that was in the audience, seemed to agree with them.

In the tensest moment of the night, Ryan asked for the lights to be dimmed and read the results: Michael, the rough-neck, country-boy sweetheart was going home. But wait, that’s not it. Remember the judges’ new rule? So the four judges then convened to decide the fate of Michael Sarva on American Idol. Actually, they didn’t really convene at all. They seemed to be goofing around like kindergarteners all night. Then Simon casually announced that they were not going to save him and that he was going home. Poor Michael. I guess it’s back to work on the oil-rig come Monday!
