Harry Potter Casts Spell On Box Office

The long anticipated 6th instalment of the “Harry Potter” franchise opened last week and didn’t disappoint.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” opened Wednesday to rave reviews and has had the highest opening for a Harry Potter movie to date.

However, in the weekend box office it didn;t break any records (most of which are held by “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”) totalling $79.5 million domestically.

For the slightly younger audience, “Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” held on to second place again this week adding another $17.7 million its total of $152 million.

The current record holder for biggest opening of the year, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox is in third this weekend grossing $13.8 million.

Falling from the top spot last week to fourth this week with $8.4 million was the controversial film “Bruno” from Sacha Baron Cohen, who last brought us “Borat”.

Finally, rounding out the top five was the comedy starring Bradley Cooper titled “The Hangover” which in its seventh week came in just below “Bruno” earning $8.3 million.
