Kevin Williamson Has Done it Again with Vampire Diaries
Dare I say it, but Kevin Williamson might just have another hit on his hands with Vampire Diaries. As Vampires have become the “it” topic over the past year with Twilight and True Blood, Vampire Diaries has premiered at an ideal time. What’s more, Williamson adds a bit of sophistication to this new drama, providing smart story lines and more than just a typical teen romance.
Yes, Vampire Diaries has a similar setting to the Twilight series, with Vampire Stefan returning home to Mystic Falls, a small town where he lived over a century ago. Stefan, offering some competition to the likes of Robert Pattinson in the looks department, returns to search for a mortal teen, Elena, who resembles a woman from his past.
The plot thickens when Damon, Stefan’s nemesis and brother, returns to Mystic Falls as well to live out his one purpose, to make Stefan’s life a living hell. But even more troubling for Stefan is the fact that Damon still feeds on human blood, making his presence that much more of an issue. The premiere climaxes when Damon bites a girl in town, leaving her alive. The girl opens her eyes clearly saying the word, “Vampire”. Planting the seed in all Mystic Falls residents, Stefan’s guise may be unveiled sooner than he expects.
A successful first episode, I will be tuning into next week to see what the repercussions are for Stefan and how it affects Elena and the other mere mortals. And I don’t think I will be the only one to tune in next week.
What did you think of the first episode?
