Still Cloudy at the Box Office
“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” took the box office by storm for the second weekend in a row adding another $24.6 million for a 10-day total of just over $60 million.
Newly released this weekend, “Surrogates”, the action thriller starring Bruce Willis came in second grossing just $15 million.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think this was a great moviegoing weekend, for whatever reason,” Disney’s head of distribution Chuck Viane commented on the performance of the “Surrogates” which cost around $80 million to produce. “I’m disappointed we’re not No. 1, but very happy we beat the other films we opened against.”
Behind “Surrogates” in third with $10 million was another new release; the reinvention of the musical “Fame” from 1980.
In fourth this weekend dropping from second last week was the Matt Damon starrer, “The Informant!” bringing in just under $7 million.
Finally, rounding out the top five with $4.8 million was the latest comedy from Tyler Perry called “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself”.
