Erykah Badu defends ‘Window Seat’ video

Wednesday, 31 Mar 2010

Nu-soul singer Erykah Badu speaks out about her latest music video for her song ‘Window Seat’.

The song ‘Window Seat’ is about freeing one’s self from the negativity surrounding their lives. The video opens with a news clip from JFK’s arrival in Dallas the day of his assassination and then quickly switches to Badu walking through Dallas. As she walks along, she begins shedding off her layers of clothing.

The video was filmed using the guerilla film making technique. This style of film making typically involves the use of real locations and people, often times without their permission or knowledge of the situation. Badu is being filmed walking through the streets of Dallas shedding her clothing, often capturing the reactions of those she is passing by. The city of Dallas has blasted her for this action.

Badu, who recently gave birth, is without clothing by the end of the video. When asked about the feature of the JFK assassination clips, the songstress said that she wanted to liken it to the assassination of her character in the video. She also admits although she is insecure with her body image, feeling vulnerable, and the fear of being arrested while filming the video. erykah-badu-talks-window-seat-video-picture
