Android taking a bite out of Apple sales

Wednesday, 19 May 2010

The research team, Gartner, reported that data shows that Android came in fourth in the total number of smartphones sold in the beginning quarter of this year. This is the smartphone from Google Inc. It surpassed Microsoft and is gaining ground on Apple. With the increased popularity of using handsets for web browsing, this places Google in a fairly good position in the playing field.

The Android accounted for 10 percent of a smart phones sold in the beginning quarter this year. The only companies with better sales than the Android were Smybian, Nokia, and Apple. Because on the increase in the amount of handset makers that are utilizing the Android operating system, Gartner feels that it will soon pass up Apple. In North America, the iPhone is already being outsold by the Android.

Earlier in the month, a research group’s data found that smart phones that use Android, made up 28 percent of unit sales in the United States for the beginnning quarter of the year. This data has been publicly question by Apple. They said it was conducted on a limited amount of consumers.
There are an increased number of start ups that are developing the applications for the Android’s software. This is an increased risk to Apple. android-apple-sales
