AT&T to allow customers to tether iPhones
This is the news many serious iPhone users have been waiting for. Tethering has been promised by AT&T and Apple since 2008, and now it soon should become a reality. Tethering in this case, is the ability for customers to use their iPhone as a wireless modem for their laptop or netbook.
The upcoming version of the iPhone OS which will be released in the coming months will include a tethering option with AT&T. iPhone users in Europe and Asia have had tethering capabilities since OS 3.0 was released in 2009, but users in North America had been left out.
This tethering feature will be available to anyone using Apple’s OS operating system. But will there be an extra charge for those using older iPhones? That still hasn’t been announced and Apple and AT&T are remaining tight-lipped about this. Other features on the new OS 4.0 will be multitasking, folders, and the ability to use iBooks which was released with the Apple iPad last month. iPad sales have been very strong ahead of new OS talk.
While OS 4.0 is expected to be released this summer, new iPhones are also expected to be released in the coming months with the new operating system installed.
